FDA authorizes kids COVID Omicron booster

SILVER SPRING, Md. (ADAMS) – The FDA is authorizing an Omicron-specific COVID booster for kids as young as five.

The Pfizer booster can be given to children ages five to 11 while the Moderna booster is for kids ages six to 17.

U.S. health officials say the new shots that target the BA.5 subvariant will better protect children against infection. The CDC must issue a recommendation before pharmacies can begin administering the shots. Its advisory committee is set to meet next week to review the data.
