Allen County Coroner: Mother and son died by murder-suicide

UPDATE (January 20, 2023):

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The shooting deaths Wednesday of 43-year-old Kari Lynn Beck and seven-year-old Oscar Beck in Fort Wayne have been ruled a murder-suicide.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office said on Thursday that they have determined she shot her son in the chest before turning the gun on herself.

A relative called 911 Wednesday morning after finding the two had been shot. She was a kindergarten aide at Concordia Lutheran School, and he was in first grade at the school.

The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following:

On Wednesday, January 18th, 2023 at 8:35 am, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a shooting investigation at 1100 Skyline Pass. Upon arrival, officers located two subjects suffering from gunshot wound(s). One subject was an adult female and the second victim was a male juvenile.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department arrived on scene and both subjects were pronounced deceased. The Fort Wayne Homicide Unit conducted the investigation, with the assistance of the Allen County Coroners Office and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.

On January 19th, an autopsy was conducted on both subjects. The Coroner ruled these deaths a murder-suicide, which was consistent with the investigation conducted by the Homicide Unit. The deceased adult murder suspect was identified as 43-year-old Kari Lynn Beck.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:

On January 18, 2023, at about 0845 hours the Allen County Coroner’s Office was contacted and advised of a double fatal shooting investigation located in the 1100 block of Skyline Pass, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46825.
The two deceased individuals have been positively identified and next of kin has been notified of the deaths.
Autopsies have been conducted on Kari Lynn Beck, female white 43 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana and her son, Oscar L. Beck, male white 7 years of age.

The Cause of Death for Kari Lynn Beck has been determined to be Gunshot Wound of Head and the Manner of Death is Suicide.

The Cause of Death for Oscar L. Beck has been determined to be Gunshot Wound of Chest and the Manner of Death is Homicide.

The investigation continues by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police are investigating after a woman and a child were found dead inside a home on the city’s north side on Wednesday.

Crews were called to the home in the 1100 block of Skyline Pass just after 8:30 a.m. when a relative found the bodies and called 911.

A shooting had been reported in the area, but police have not said if the two victims were killed by gunfire.

The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following:

The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a call of a shooting at a residence in the 1100 block of Skyline Pass. Upon arrival, FWPD Officers made entry into the home and located a deceased adult female and a deceased juvenile. It is uncertain at this time the details of what occurred. This investigation is fluid and all leads are being followed. The Coroner’s Office will release the cause and manner of death, after next of kin notification.

This incident remains under investigation by the Coroner’s Office, the Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Prosecutor’s Office.
