LAGRANGE CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Police say a Wolcottville man was arrested after police say he held a 35-year-old Sturgis woman captive and assaulted her.
The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office says that officers were sent to Sturgis Hospital on Thursday, April 14, after a woman came in with severe injuries. She told detectives that she had been held in an apartment for a period of two weeks before she was able to finally escape.
The woman said that 41-year-old Foua Joseph Tofiga Jr. had struck her with his fist, struck her with a hammer, stabbed her with a knife, and bit her all over her body.
He is now facing a list of charges.
The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office released the following:
On 04/14/2022 the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Sturgis Hospital for a woman that had severe injuries upon her body. Detectives arrived on scene and found a 35-year-old Sturgis woman that had multiple injuries in multiple healing stages, upon her body.
The woman told Detectives that she had been held captive for a period of 2 weeks before she was able to finally escape.
While being held captive, the female stated that the male had struck her with his fist multiple times, struck her with a hammer multiple times, stabbed her with a knife multiple times, and bit her all over her body, multiple times.
After an investigation into the matter, a search warrant was requested and approved through the LaGrange Circuit Court. Based upon various details and concern for officer safety, the LaGrange County Critical Response Team was activated to execute an arrest and search warrant at the residence. 41-year-old Foua Joseph Tofiga JR was taken into custody and booked into the LaGrange County Jail on charges of Rape, Criminal confinement, Aggravated Battery resulting in injury, Strangulation and Intimidation.
