FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Local health officials say the COVID strain known as the UK variant, the B.1.1.7 variant, is now in Allen County.
Over 1,100 variant cases have been identified in the state. And among them, 800 have been the B.1.1.7 variant.
So far, vaccines still appear to be effective against this strain of coronavirus.
The news of spreading variants comes as vaccine demand is dropping. Some sites are reporting many people not showing up for their second shot or not showing up at all for appointments.
This is something that organizers with the mass vaccination site at the Memorial Coliseum hope to help ease.
They will allow walk-ins during certain hours. They do still encourage making an appointment. Walk-in hours will change daily. Find more here.
The Pfizer vaccine is given at the Coliseum which does require two shots.
