Two taken to the hospital following Main St. fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Firefighters spent around an hour and a half battling a house fire close to downtown. Fire officials say that two people were taken to the hospital for evaluation following the blaze at 1317 W. Main Street.

Crews found most of the fire on the first floor when they arrived just after midnight.

After over an hour, crews gained control but had to remain on the scene for hours to put out hotspots.

The home suffered heavy smoke, fire, and water damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department released the following:

FWFD responded to a possible house fire. First arriving unit reported heavy fire involvement throughout the first floor. Crews worked for over an hour to bring the fire under control. Two occupants self evacuated and were transported to the hospital for observation. Crews will be on scene for most of the morning locating and extinguishing hidden fires in the walls and attics. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. FWFD was assisted by FWPD, TRAA, AEP, NIPSCO, NCE and Red Cross.
