Suspect arrested in shooting death of 15-year-old

UPDATE (February 21, 2020):

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police Department Homicide Division has made an arrest in the shooting death of Eric McDonnell. Friday afternoon, Gang and Narcotic units made a traffic stop at Hanna and Lewis and took the suspect into custody without incident. Cameron B Hallett, 22, is being charged with murder for the shooting death of 15-year-old Eric McDonnell on February 19, 2020, in the 2800 block of Euclid Av.

FWPD officials say, “currently, detectives are interviewing other persons of interest but at the time of this release there have been no charges. This investigation is ongoing. If additional arrests are made releases will go out.”

The Allen County Coroner identified the 15-year-old last Thursday. On Thursday, the coroner’s office released the following:

“The Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified of the death of Eric Ray McDonnell, Jr. male white, 15 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana at about 21:15 hours on February 19, 2020.
Eric Ray McDonnell, Jr. was found down in an alley in the 2800 block of Euclid Avenue, at about 19:10 hours, suffering from a gunshot wound, and was transported to a local hospital where death was pronounced.
An autopsy has been completed and the next of kin has been notified of the death. The Cause of Death has been determined to be a Gunshot Wound and the Manner of Death is Homicide.
Eric Ray McDonnell, Jr. is the 5th Homicide in Allen County for 2020.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.”


FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Police say a 15-year-old boy was shot last night off Euclid Avenue and Central. Officers were called to the 2800 block of Euclid around 7 Wednesday night.

When they arrived they found the boy in an alley. He was unresponsive.
The teen is reported to be in critical condition after being taken to a local hospital. Thursday morning, officials with the Fort Wayne Police Department confirmed that the boy died.

There are currently few details and no suspect information.
