STEUBEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Another person has died following a crash in Steuben County last week.
It happened Friday just before 4 p.m. on S.R. 120 near C.R. 850 West, a mile east of Orland. Upon the arrival of initial first responders, four people who were injured were located in one vehicle and one injured person was located in the second vehicle.
According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, a blue 2007 Nissan Titan pickup truck driven by 50-year-old Donald Gene Squires of Howe was traveling westbound on S.R. 120 when it drifted left of the center line and hit an eastbound silver 2012 Volkswagen car.
Police said at the time that the two vehicles appeared to have collided nearly head-on.
A woman in the front passenger seat of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene. She was later identified as 33-year-old Breanna Jeanne Bright of rural Fremont.
43-year-old Lonnie Lee Bright of rural Fremont was driving. He and two children were hospitalized with critical injuries.
On Wednesday, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office said Lonnie Bright had succumbed to his injuries.
Five-year-old Journey Bright still remains hospitalized in critical condition. Granger Bright, who is 3 months old, was treated at a local hospital and has since been released.
The sheriff’s office said neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be a factor in the crash and the weather was clear and road conditions were dry.

On 08/05/2022 just before 4:00 pm, Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies and EMS first responders were called to the area of SR 120 near CR 850 W in Steuben County’s rural Milgrove Township on an initial report of a 2 vehicle accident with multiple injured parties. Upon the arrival of initial first responders, four injured persons were located from one vehicle involved and one injured person was located from the second vehicle involved.
Preliminary crash scene investigation indicated that a blue 2007 Nissan Titan pickup truck driven by 50 year old Donald Gene Squires of Howe, IN was traveling westbound on SR 120 from CR 850 W when Squires’ vehicle traveled left of the center line into the path of an eastbound silver 2012 Volkswagen passenger car. The two vehicles appeared to have then collided nearly head-on.
The female front seat passenger of the Volkswagen was pronounced deceased at the scene due to blunt force trauma by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office. The male driver and two small children, who were secured in child safety seats in the back seat, were transported by Ambulance to Cameron Hospital in critical condition. The male driver and the elder child were then flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN by the Samaritan helicopter for further treatment.
Squires suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash. No other information is being released at this time pending further investigation and notification of next of kin. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Indiana State Police, Orland Police, Orland Fire Rescue, Steuben County EMS, and the Steuben County Coroner’s Office.
