Victim identified in fatal Wells St. stabbing

The victim in a fatal stabbing on Wells Street has been identified.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following on Monday:

“The Allen County Coroner’s Office was contacted on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at about 1530 hours, and notified of a stabbing investigation located near the 1000 block of Wells Street, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
The victim in this investigation was found suffering from stab wounds and was transported from the scene to a local hospital where death was pronounced a short time after arrival.
The next of kin has been notified of the death and an autopsy has been completed. The decedent has been positively identified as Randolph D. Bazile, male black, 38 years of age, from Ft. Wayne.
The Cause of Death is Multiple Stab Wounds and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Randolph D. Bazile is the 1st Homicide in Allen County for 2021. This crash is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.”

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Investigators in Fort Wayne are not saying anything about a motive in a deadly weekend stabbing. It happened Saturday afternoon, near downtown. Police rushed the victim to the hospital, but he’d later die. Officers arrested 32-year-old Arthur Reeves in the case. Reeves could be formally charged with murder today, and investigators say they may release the victim’s identity today as well.

FWPD officials released the following:

“On January 9, 2021, at 3:12 pm, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a fight in the 1000 block of N. Wells St. Officers arrived and located an adult male suffering from apparent stab wounds. This male was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

A person of interest was detained at the scene and is currently being questioned at the police station. Detectives are interviewing other witnesses as well, hoping to learn what led to the stabbing, what the involvement of the victim and person of interest was, etc.

Crime scene technicians are searching the scene for any evidence, which will be collected and processed.

The exact cause and manner of death, as well as the identity of the decedent, will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office. Any potential charges will be released when appropriate to do so as well.”

Later in the day, Fort Wayne Police announced the arrest of Reeves.
