Coroner identifies remains found by wooded area near Yoder

UPDATED INFORMATION (January 24, 2022):

ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says that an investigation is underway after someone found human remains were found near Yoder last week.

According to the department, at approximately 2:55 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to the 15000 block of Harber Road in southern Allen County in reference to a possible person located in or near a wooded area.

The witness, who was working near the wooded area, reported the incident.

Officers and medics arrived on the scene, where human remains were located.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office also arrived at the scene and the DNR was also called in. The Department of Natural Resources said that the remains had been there for “a decent amount of time,” reportedly.

The Allen County Coroner now has identified the body as Thomas David Kiester, 59, of Fort Wayne. His cause and manner of death are pending.

The incident is still under investigation.

The coroner’s office released the following:

On Wednesday, January 19, 2022 the Allen County Coroner’s Office was contacted and advised of the discovery of a human skeleton located in a wooded area, along a small creek in the 15000 block of Harber Road, Yoder, Indiana 46798. The Allen County Sheriff’s Department, Southwest Fire and EMS and Poe Fire and EMS were on scene.
The remains and personal property were collected at the scene and transported to the NEIFC and held for autopsy and further examination. Items in the personal property along with details of the investigation have aided in determining the identity of the decedent.
Notification has been made to the next of kin of Thomas David Kiester, male white 59 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Cause of Death is Pending and the Manner of Death is Pending.
This incident remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
