Fort Wayne semi-pro football league folds

UPDATE (April 13, 2021):

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The National Gridiron League in Fort Wayne is no more.

On Monday, the league canceled its season.

Some of the players who came to town for tryouts now say they are trapped and can’t get back home.

The league’s organizer had said the city of Fort Wayne promised to cover hotel costs for the league, but the city said it did not.

The NGL promised to play its season in a bubble in Fort Wayne, and now there won’t be any football.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – There are questions about the new semi-pro football league trying to start up in Fort Wayne. Players with the National Gridiron League protested on Saturday.

They say they were promised that Fort Wayne would cover their hotel bills. But the city says that’s not the case and doubled down yesterday by saying it has questions about the NGL’s financial wherewithal.

League leaders say they have a meeting today to talk things over, but the mayor’s office says it doesn’t have any meeting scheduled.
