FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – City leaders in Fort Wayne are saying ‘no’ to a $7 million dollar tax break for Amazon.
The city council Tuesday night voted 5-3-1 against a plan that would mean Amazon would not pay any taxes on the equipment for its new fulfillment center in the first year, and then give the company a sizable tax break for the next nine years.
Fort Wayne already gave Amazon a $16 million dollar tax break on its property taxes for the center.
Councilwoman Sharon Tucker criticized Amazon for how she says they treat their workers. Supporters of the tax break say the idea was to lure Amazon to Fort Wayne to create jobs.
