We now know the identity of a man who suffered a medical event before crashing off West Coliseum.
The coroner says the 51-year-old’s death has been ruled accidental – caused by blunt force trauma injuries sustained in the crash.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
On Monday, June 6, 2022 at about 0940 hours the Allen County Coroner’s Office was contacted and advised of a single vehicle motor vehicle crash located in the 1000 block of West Coliseum Boulevard, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The crash occurred at about 0939 hours and was investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department.
The operator of the vehicle has been identified as Matthew W. Becher, male white 51 years of age, from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Notification of the death has been made with the next of kin. Death was pronounced on scene, by Three Rivers Ambulance Paramedics.
The Cause of Death is Multiple Blunt Force Injuries due to Motor Vehicle Crash and the Manner of Death is Accident. Matthew W. Becher is the 21th fatal motor vehicle crash for Allen County in 2022. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say a man is dead after suffering a medical episode and crashing into a hotel sign on West Coliseum Boulevard.
It happened just after 9:30 Monday morning. Police say the man was heading eastbound when his vehicle veered off the road and hit the Regency Inn sign.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigation a fatal single vehicle accident that occurred June 6th, 2022 at approximately 9:39 am at 1004 W. Coliseum Blvd.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a white Chrysler 300 was traveling East on Coliseum Blvd. when the driver (solo occupant) had a medical episode causing the driver to veer off the roadway crashing into the Regency Inn sign at 1004 W. Coliseum Blvd.
The driver was wearing his seatbelt and the airbag was deployed. The driver, an adult male was rendered care at the scene by paramedics and was pronounced deceased a short time later at the scene.
The Fatal Accident Crash Team and the Air Support Unit were paged to take over the investigation. One West bound lane of Coliseum Blvd. was closed during the course of the investigation. The Coroner’s office will release the cause and manner of death at a
later date. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Coroner’s Office.
