FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Police in Fort Wayne say a person who rode a bike through a red light is fighting for their life after being hit by a car.
Police are not saying anything about the victim other than they were riding their bike at Illinois and Hadley Sunday morning. Police say the bicyclist went through a red light and was hit by a passing car.
The victim was rushed to the hospital with what police say are life-threatening injuries.
FWPD officials released the following:
On Sunday July 25th at approximately 9:25 am officers of the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the report of a bicyclist hit near the intersection of Hadley and Illinois Roads.
Initially once on the scene the bicyclist was transported to a local hospital for serious injuries. Once at the hospital ER staff determined the adult male bicyclist had life threatening injuries. The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Accident Team was on scene to officially investigate the crash. Witnesses at the scene reported the bicyclist to be traveling northbound on Hadley Road, passing through the intersection at Illinois Road on a reported steady red traffic signal when he was struck by the driver of a vehicle traveling westbound on Illinois Road. At this time the identity of the victim will not be released until he has been officially identified.
