SOUTH BEND, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana State Police say a traffic stop Thursday morning by a trooper and members of the South Bend Police Department Strategic Focus Unit resulted in a Decatur, MI woman being arrested for drug charges and a gun charge.
Police say she was a passenger on a motorcycle that was stopped in South Bend. Officers say they found the gun and bags of meth. They add that she tried to use a fake identity when questioned.
Indian State Police released the following:
On May 19, 2022, at approximately 10:00 a.m. Trooper Kyle Hudson saw a 1999 Yamaha motorcycle commit several moving violations as it traveled north on Michigan Street in South Bend, IN. Hudson stopped the Yamaha on Michigan Street near the intersection with Bronson Street.
During the traffic stop it was discovered that the female passenger on the Yamaha was in possession of a handgun and 21 individually packaged plastic bags containing suspected methamphetamine. Each bag weighed approximately a half gram. While Hudson was attempting to identify the female passenger, she gave a name and date of birth that was discovered to be false. She was eventually positively identified as Christy Coons, 46 of Decatur, MI.
Coons was arrested and transported to the St. Joseph County Jail for Possession of Methamphetamine, Dealing Methamphetamine, Felon in Possession of a Handgun, Identity Deception, and Fraud.
The male operating the Yamaha was released from the scene after being issued a traffic citation.
