Doctor in 10-year-old rape victim’s abortion keeps license

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana medical officials say the doctor who provided an abortion for a 10-year-old rape victim from Ohio violated state and federal patient privacy laws.

The Indiana Medical Licensing Board on Thursday found that Dr. Caitlin Bernard violated privacy laws when she spoke publicly about providing abortion care for the girl last summer. Attorney General Todd Rokita had called for her license to be revoked.

In a split decision, the board ruled that Bernard violated privacy laws in handling the girl’s information. She’ll be fined $3,000, will receive a letter of reprimand, and will be allowed to continue practicing medicine.
