FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – We now know the identity of a young mother killed outside her South Anthony rental home late Tuesday night – the Allen County Coroner says that 23-year-old Lashonda Eldridge’s was homicide by gunshot wounds. She was in a car with her two young kids at the time of the shooting. Still no word on leads or suspects
The Allen County Coroner released the following:
“The autopsy has been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin, of the female victim that was located in a motor vehicle, in the 2500 Block of South Anthony Boulevard in Fort Wayne, on August 20, 2019, at approximately 21:42 hours. She has been positively identified as Lashonda Denise Eldridge, female, black, 23 years of age, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Lashonda Denise Eldridge was suffering from gunshot wounds and was transported from the scene by medics to a local hospital where death was pronounced.
Cause of Death has been determined to be Gunshot Wound(s) and the Manner of Death is Homicide.
Lashonda Denise Eldridge is the 16th Homicide victim in Allen County for 2019
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.”
ORIGINAL STORY (August 21, 2019):
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Police in Fort Wayne want to know who would shoot a woman with two kids in her car.
Officials say that Tuesday night just before 10 p.m., officers responded to the 2500 block of South Anthony Blvd. in reference to a shooting. A caller reported a female inside a red colored vehicle had been shot.
Officers arrived and located the vehicle parked in the north/south alley between Lillie Street and South Anthony Blvd. Officers discovered an adult/female victim in the driver’s seat suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. In addition, there were two children (ages two and five) in the backseat of the vehicle. The children suffered minor injuries from broken glass. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Upon arriving at the hospital, a physician pronounced the victim deceased.
Detectives canvassed the neighborhood in an effort to locate possible witnesses but did not give any word on leads.
