FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Officials with the FWFD say one person is dead after an overnight house fire southwest of downtown Fort Wayne. The Fort Wayne Fire Department was sent to 1342 Fay Drive just after 3:15 Saturday morning on the report of a residential structure fire.
Fort Wayne police were already on the scene and confirmed a working fire with someone possibly inside. The first fire department engine arrived in 3 minutes and found flames coming from the first and second floors. The crew pulled a hand line to go inside and search for occupants.
They immediately located a victim who they determined was deceased and continued their search knocking down fire on the way. Conditions inside worsened and crews had to evacuate with a partial floor collapse. It was determined that nobody else was in the home which sustained major damage.

The fire was under control in 30 minutes, but crews remained on the scene for most of the morning working to control hotspots. The home suffered heavy smoke, water, and fire damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The fire department was assisted by TRAA, FWPD, Nipsco, AEP and neighborhood Code.
