FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Kids in one Fort Wayne-area school district will stay masked up almost until Christmas break.
Wednesday night, the school board in Northwest Allen County Schools voted to extend the school’s mask mandate until December 18th.
Northwest Allen County Schools have been one of the flashpoints in the debate over masks in schools, many parents in the district don’t want their kids masked. And despite the meeting being virtual many parents still showed up in person to protest the mask order.
Superintendent Chris Himsel says before the mask mandate, nearly 1,300 kids were out of school because of the coronavirus or a quarantine order. After the mandate, he says that number fell to 163.
Though that may be because of different quarantine rules for kids in schools without mask mandates.
