INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Proposed legislation to fund handgun training for teachers is heading to Governor Holcomb’s desk.
The bill passed the Indiana Senate on a 41-to-8 vote Wednesday after House lawmakers approved changes made to the measure.
If Holcomb signs it into law, teachers can get 40 hours of gun training. School districts in Indiana are already allowed to approve armed teachers, but there is no training required for that to happen.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – A bill that would provide state-funded handgun training for teachers is advancing.
House Bill 1177 originally aimed to mandate handgun training for teachers who volunteer. But the version that is moving forward would instead have Indiana pay for at least 40 hours of training.
The bill passed the Indiana Senate 42 to 8 on Tuesday.
