UPDATE (September 6, 2023):
Indiana State Police say that following an autopsy the identity of the woman who died while incarcerated at the St. Joseph County Jail.
ISP says that full results are still pending but they do not think could play was at hand when 51-year-old Erica Williams died Sunday afternoon.
Indiana State Police released the following:
The deceased female from the St. Joseph County Jail has been identified as Erica S. Williams, 51, of South Bend, IN. Family has been notified. Results from the autopsy are pending but foul play is not suspected.
There is no other information to release currently.

ST. JOSEPH CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana State Police are investigating the death Sunday of a female inmate in the St. Joseph County Jail.
ISP troopers were contacted around 5:40 p.m. after jail staff were alerted to her being in a suspected medical emergency. She was pronounced dead at the jail.
An autopsy is scheduled at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The Indiana State Police has been requested to investigate the death of an inmate at the St. Joseph County Jail. The Indiana State Police were contacted Sunday evening at approximately 5:41 p.m. on September 3, 2023, after jail staff were alerted to a female inmate suffering from what is suspected to be a medical emergency.
Life-saving efforts were taken by jail staff until emergency medical technicians arrived. Despite life-saving measures by jail staff and EMTs, the inmate was pronounced deceased at the jail.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI.
