FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says that one person died in a crash Monday morning at the intersection of Maplecrest and Trier Road.
Police said that a passenger vehicle was heading south on Maplecrest when it rear-ended another vehicle. Adult men drove both cars.
The impact caused the first vehicle to continue through the intersection and eventually strike a fence.
The driver of that car is believed to have suffered a medical episode before hitting the other vehicle from behind.
The FWPD says that the man died a short time later at the hospital. The driver of the other car was not hurt.

The Fort Wayne Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team in investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred Aug. 14th, 2023 (Monday) at 8:03 AM at the intersection of Maplecrest Rd. and Trier Rd. Preliminary investigation indicates that a maroon passenger car being driven by an adult male was traveling south on Maplecrest Rd. and rear ended a silver passenger car, also driven by an adult male, which was stopped at the traffic light on Maplecrest Rd at Trier Rd. The marron car then continued south through the intersection and careened through a fence after the collision.
Initial information indicates that the driver of the maroon vehicle had a medical episode prior to the crash. The driver was unresponsive at the scene and was rendered aid by FWFD and TRAA. He was taken to a local hospital in life threatening condition. While at the hospital the subject was pronounced deceased by medical staff a short time later. The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosectuor’s Office, and the Coroner’s Office.
