UPDATE:
Fort Wayne police say that investigators are trying to piece together what caused a fatal crash Friday morning.
The Fort Wayne Police Department said just after 7 a.m. that traffic going southbound on Coliseum was shut down due to the crash that happened just south of Lake Avenue.
It was around 6:45 that officers were called to the scene. Paramedics arrived and pronounced a man dead. Police say he was running at the time.
FWPD officials released the following just before 9 a.m.:
On Friday March 25, 2022 at approximately 6:45 AM officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of Coliseum Blvd and Lake Ave in reference to a fatal automobile accident. As officers and paramedics arrived on the scene, they located an adult male unresponsive lying on the west side of Coliseum. Paramedics pronounced the male victim deceased at the scene.
Witnesses advised that the male victim was observed running westbound on Coliseum while crossing the street as one vehicle swerved and missed the male while a second vehicle struck the victim. At the time of the crash, it was dark outside. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office. Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department F.A.C.T team along with the Air Support Unit was dispatched to the scene to collect evidence and document the scene.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – If you would usually take Coliseum around Lake Avenue for your commute – you might want to find a different way this morning.
The Fort Wayne Police Department says that traffic going southbound on Coliseum is shut down right now (7:30 a.m.) for a fatal crash that happened just south of Lake Avenue.
Investigators will be on the scene trying to figure out what happened.
FWPD released the following shortly after 7 a.m.:
Southbound Coliseum Blvd is closed to all traffic at this time due to investigators on the scene of a fatal automobile accident. Please take an alternate route and avoid this intersection.
